Cricket is said to be a gentleman’s game but the passion towards the game often indulges players into clashes with their opponents. Here are 5 on field clashes in IPL that will be very hard for the fans to forget.
5)Shane Warne vs Sourav Ganguly:-
The first season of IPL also saw two of the cricketing giants, Sourav Ganguly and Shane Warne involve in an ugly spat. Smith has taken a catch of Sourav Ganguly’s shot, and both the fielder and the batsman were not sure whether the catch was clean or not. The third umpire came into the picture and stated that the catch was not clean. Shane Warne, lambasted Ganguly in the post-match press conference and on the field saying that, “When in Bangalore we signed the Spirit of Cricket (sic) it meant play in the right spirit.” And in return the Bengal tiger has said “Look who is talking! If you look at his career and the incidents he got in, it will give you the answer.”
4)Kieron Pollard vs Dwayne Bravo:-
Dwayne Bravo and Pollard might be from the same country, but when they don their respective IPL jerseys then it’s an entirely different scenario. The duo from West Indies caught everyone’s attention when Bravo got out Pollard a crucial eliminator in IPL, 2012. Bravo celebrated the fall of wicket and gestured in a way that was not to the liking of the countryman and also asked him to take a next flight back home.
3)Sreesanth vs Harbhajan Singh:-
The spat between bhajji and Sreesanth tops the chart of the on-field clashes. The ugly spat between the two Indian cricketers occurred in the inaugural season of the IPL. The off- spinner Harbhajan Singh has lost his cool when he was approached by Sree and the latter slapped for reasons that are not yet clear. Even though, none of the footages reveal that Bhajji has committed such an act, but the on field sources confirmed that.
2)Gautam Gambhir vs Virat Kohli:-
The heat of the moment got the better of both Virat and Gambhir as they were both seen abusing at each other in one of the IPL matches in 2013. The audiences are well aware of the aggressive nature of both the players but did not anticipate a severe exchange of words between them. This shameful incident happened after the fall of wicket of Virat Kohli, who tried to hit the bowler over the boundary. When, the KKR group came together in rejoice, the current vice- captain of India made obscene marks and in response to that the Captain of KKR approached Virat uttering few words and the argument took a bad shape. It took fellow Delhi Ranji team mate Rajat Bhatia who was then with KKR to intervene and calm down things.
1)Mitchell Starc vs Kieron Pollard:-
In the 2014 IPL, this incident occurred in the 17th over of Mumbai’s innings. Starc bowled a bouncer at Pollard, who was beaten as he attempted a hook. Starc went up to the batsman and spoke a few words and Pollard’s reaction was to wave him off. As Starc ran in to bowl the next ball, Pollard pulled out of the delivery by backing away outside leg stump just as the bowler was approaching his jump. Starc did not abort the delivery, instead he followed the batsman and bowled the ball in anger close to Pollard’s legs. Pollard responded by swinging his bat hard – appearing to threaten to throw it at the bowler – and it slipped out of his hand and fell on the leg side. Both players were visibly angry and continued to exchange words.
