Speedster Taskin Ahmed has become the 5th Bangladesh bowler to pick up a hattrick in ODI cricket when he picked up three wickets in as many deliveries in the 50th and final over of the Sri Lanka innings on Tuesday.
Taskin started the rally by sending Asela Gunaratne back. It was a full ball, the batsman failed to lift it over the man at mid-off, and was caught by Soumya Sarkar. The next victim was Suranga Lakmal. It was a nothing delivery really. That was full-toss and the batsman slammed it straight to the man at mid-wicket. Mustafizur Rahman dived to his right and took it with both hands.
The magical moment came when Taskin got the better of new batsman Nuwan Pradeep in the hattrick ball. He produced a perfect yorker, the batsman tried to flay it away, missed it easily, and found himself clean bowled
Overall it is the 41th hattrick in the history of ODI cricket. Taskin is Bangladesh’s third pacer to have such glory. Shahadat Hossain was the first Bangladesh to get a hat trick. Next it was Abdur Razzak. Both of them got it against Zimbabwe. Then Rubel Hossain had a hat trick against New Zealand before Taijul Islam snapped up a hattrick in his debut on Zimbabwe.
Bangladesh’s first hattrick by Shahadat Hossain came in Harare. Next three Bangladesh bowlers got their hattricks at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. And now, Taskin is the second Bangladeshi bowler to get his hattrick away from home, in Dambulla.
Taskin is also the third bowler in history after England’s Steven Finn and New Zealand’s Shane Bond to complete a hattrick in the last over of the innings.
